About Life Guide Institute
Life Guide Institute is building a trusted global healthcare community and resource connecting physicians, patients and healthcare systems with best-evidence medicine, rated mobile health tools and medical supplies, and peers. We’re the Facebook of medicine, and the Netflix of medical commerce; only we are a medical community- in quality of content, in language and professionalism, in privacy and work-groups and in collection and output of independently reviewed research. We help physicians, patients, and healthcare systems through public and private chats, social media, and recommended tools. We are building a community of trust by and for physicians and patients, but letting the community tell us how to build their own experience. LGI is using global community to help improve local healthcare delivery and relationships.
There was a time when healthcare delivery consisted of a rotary phone, Marcus Welby, MD, and your physician had time to return a call. Your MD was your healthcare resource, in fact s/he was the only healthcare resource you had or needed and you trusted what you were told. One patient-one physician built on trust, respect, confidence, and a relationship.
Today, 80% of patients with cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, and 101 other illnesses use online resources to replace the rotary phone and limited physician access. A lot of this information isn’t from physicians at all, and if it’s from physicians, it could be hundreds… Not one resource but the entire web. It’s chat groups, patient groups, illness blogs, social media, websites, libraries of data, etc. Patients demand online healthcare experiences quickly and easily identify solutions to problems they need to solve. We are smarter and better informed and are creating physician patient relationships that are empowered. But, this revolution has come at a cost. We have diluted and marginalized the strongest connection we have: patient and healthcare professional. And we have so much information, but no way to find what we need, when we need it, and know that it’s trust, best-evidence medicine.
Imagine the most powerful clearinghouse for medical content—not just evidence-based content, but best evidence-based content—is accessible by doctors for their patients with a click of a button. Imagine this clearinghouse providing a home where patients and doctors connect in real-time, where patients speak to fellow patients, where caregivers and support groups are all around the table and where everyone has the privacy they expect when discussing medical issues. Now imagine that same clearinghouse offering digital tools, such as apps and mHealth devices, along with standard medical supplies and products that all come vetted by physicians, so patients know their doctor has given the stamp of approval. Imagine further that doctors could manage their continuing education right from this same source, while reaching their work-groups, colleagues, medical associations and preferred journals. Imagine no longer. This web portal is the Life Guide Institute (LGI).
Serving as the premier hub for content, conversation and commerce in the health care space, LGI will not be building the applications, creating patient groups or otherwise “reinventing the wheel.” Rather, we are creating the platform and infrastructure for health care providers, receivers and vendors to meet at single place, fostering the creation of organic relationships on their own. This model offers the best of present-day medicine, enhanced by the advances of web technology, without ethical compromise. We have designed LGI to serve doctors and patients alike, so all ethical and regulatory requirements are of the highest order. Moreover, we have ensured that control of information stays in the hands of every user, and by default is held private.
Our ethical promises also relate to the scientific information we expect to gather in measuring how web medicine improves the care for patients. Those who opt in to our system will help us gather data that indicates how well web medicine is at improving patient health, e.g. do online chats help patients stick to their treatment regimens? By collecting and analyzing such information, LGI will embark on an empirical exploration of what web medicine can do. When it comes to health outcomes, we are only interested in the truthful science. We recognize to be beyond reproach is to remain without professional conflict. That is why we will never accept pharmaceutical funding. We want every user to have confidence in our findings and in the content we provide.
By design, LGI seeks to bridge the best of traditional medicine with the best of what digital technology has to offer. From aiding doctors to save time and money by tapping a secure, private and regulatory-compliant system for all their needs, from conducting patient forums to managing their CME, LGI strives to streamline their activities all from one site. Health care systems benefit as well from LGI by providing their physicians an affordable way to reach patients, market their practices, while also tapping related medical purchases and attracting new patients and physicians who seek modern web-platform support. Health associations and patient groups gain from content and chat functionality that they can offer their members, along with ready access to media sources to promote their message. Most of all, patients and caregivers benefit from receiving best-in- class medical information from specialty experts, perspectives from fellow patients and trusted sources for doctor-approved medical products and supplies. For every medical care stakeholder, the potential of LGI is to offer a single point-of-contact in accessing medical information, resources, products and tools.
We are a community of healthcare professionals, patients, providers building a community for everyone who needs a voice in healthcare to come to one trusted site for content, community and tools. We are a healthcare company first, using technology, not a technology company serving healthcare. Please come join us on this journey.
